Fluffy, buttery, sweet – “Buchteln” sweet breads are a heavenly treat.

Ingredients:

  • 300g flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 25g butter
  • 30g sugar
  • ½ cube yeast
  • 1 pack vanilla sugar
  • Apricot jam
  • Icing sugar

Preparation:

Warm the milk and crumble the yeast into it. Mix the sugar and flour together in a bowl and add the milk mixture to it. Cover the bowl and leave the dough to rise in a warm place for around 25 minutes, and then add the eggs, vanilla sugar, and butter. Knead the dough until bubbles appear. Cover the dough again and leave it to rise for 15 minutes until it has doubled in size. Roll out the dough until it’s approx. one centimetre thick. Cut out circles with a cutter, fill each one with apricot jam, and shape them into balls. Place the balls into a baking tin and brush them with butter. Bake the balls for around 25 minutes at 160°C (fan oven). Leave them to cool and then sprinkle them with icing sugar.
